Your Network Marketing Strategy
So far, I’ve talked about the big picture.
Yes, passion and belief are both essential if you
’re going to succeed in anything, especially so in network marketing. As important as they are, however, they’re not complete in and of themselves.
You need direction.
You see, you can be passionate and believe in what you’re doing, but without a strategy, you’re not going to get very far. Passion and belief are the “What.” Your network marketing strategy is the “How.”
Rock and Roll All Night
For example, in the 1980’s I played in a rock and roll band. We were passionate about our music, and believed one day we would all be rock stars.
Our strategy? Become the best musicians we could be. Surely, if we did that, we could then just wait for the day a cigar-smoking record executive walked into one of the dives we played and signed us to a deal.
Guess what? Didn’t happen.
Yes, we excelled on our instruments. In fact, I’d say we were some of the best musicians in town. But it wasn’t enough.
Our product was superb, but our marketing sucked.
Make Money Effortlessly
It reminds me of some network marketing companies I’ve looked at who tried to tell me that “This product sells itself.” I even asked one of the reps who told me that, “So, if I just buy this product, put it in my garage, it’s going to just disappear and my bank account’s going to grow?”
He caught my sarcasm, and quickly changed the subject.
My point is, even though you want to represent a solid product and company, they’re not enough to make you successful by themselves. Neither are passion and belief. You have to have a plan – to know how you’re going to proceed from point A to point B.
Ideally, your upline will be able to help you work out a strategy that’s suitable for you. If not, you might need to look elsewhere for coaching and mentoring.

A plan uh? I just started a new blog and I am kind of all over the map. Last night was the first time I wrote down what I wanted to do tomorrow(meaning today) and hopefully I get it all done. If it works cool, it probably will but up until last night I just knew what I wanted to get done and I would be doing 20 things @ once and in the end nothing really got done. Hopefully the whole plan thing works out!!

It sounds like you’re brand new to this whole online marketing thing. If that’s the case, there’s a lot to learn, depending on how far you want to take it.
Are you into network marketing, affiliate marketing, or something else? I would certainly read all I could on whatever direction I wanted to go, and then start formulating a plan.
There’s no point in trying to reinvent the wheel. There are so many others out there who can teach you how to market effectively using your blog. You don’t need to go it alone.

Passion for your business is right-brained and sexy. Developing a strategy is the un-sexy part because it requires action. But I think they way you dress strategy up is by doing things you enjoy and that you’re comfortable with.
For example, I know I’m not good on the phone, so I write articles to attract customers to me. I win because I’m happy to do it. My customers win because they’re learning about my product in an engaging way.
I think it boils down to finding that happy medium and working the heck out of it.

Boy, you hit the nail right on the head! When you talk about “dressing strategy up,” you’re addressing a key issue, and that’s finding something you enjoy doing.
I’m like you, in that I can’t stand cold calling leads. I’ve honestly never even come close to recruiting anybody that way. I also like writing articles, making videos, and blog posts, and making friends on Twitter and Facebook.
Outside of being a rock star, I couldn’t think of a more fun way to make a living.

You have every right to be sarcastic. Your post made me laugh.
A product can’t sell it self. Many new marketers fall for that, and when they don’t see results, they quit. We all have to see the reality of selling a brand or product.
It takes a driving force behind it, which is us. Like you said it take strategy.

Nobody told me I had to take the initiative. I just thought if I told enough people, eventually I’d be successful. I believed it because that’s what I was told.

I agree. We can’t just join and then, expect to succeed without a plan or strategy. The same is true for our blogs. Just putting them up on the web won’t be enough to create visibility.

Enjoyed the post and loved your sense of humor! I think we all need that in this business.
I stumbled around for way too long without a “plan”. Guess you could say I wasn’t quite sure what I was suppose to be doing. Got SO tired of hearing that the product will sell itself that I took a different direction.
I think we all need some support from a community or mentor if we want to succeed. I now only concentrate on the areas of marketing that I excel at and bring me the most traffic. It seems to be working quite well so guess that plan finally kicked in.

Thanks for your kind words. It’s funny how many of us “stumble around for way too long” until we find something we’re good at, and that we enjoy doing. My upline told me I was supposed to be enjoying making cold calls and putting flyers on cars.

I’m seeing a new shift in the industry today, a new energy pumping through our veins. I think many of us who were about to give in are seeing that we can do what we love and be successful marketers.

Gregory, I absolutely agree. I help people discover their passion (as part of various aspects of self awareness), create their vision, work on their mindset (including belief) and set goals to get to their vision. Those are essential foundations. But then it’s where the rubber meets the road, so to speak. They need to take action. And to take action, they need a plan.

there’s nothing wrong with fairy tales. There are good ones and bad ones. A very bad one is the fairy tale of the product that sells itself. If that was true why would a company afford a sales force ?
With that said, you need all: You need a strong motivation that goes beyond money and you need to know what to do and most importantly how. If you know what to do it and how to do it, you’ll succeed even with a negative attitude. With a positive attitude, but without skills how to do what we’re supposed to to, we will fail.

You mean you’re not going to sign me to a record contract? LOL. Seriously, if you heard me sing these days, about the only label that would want to sign me would be “Sick Dog Records.”
I agree that much more is needed than just a positive attitude. I mean, if you’re driving West, determined to chase down that sunrise, you’re not postive, you’re delusional.
I’m sure there are some demos of the band floating around somewhere, although I don’t have any. The band’s name was Dr. Nasty, and we were based out of Orlando, Florida.

Great to connect with you through the Mastermind Community. When I started my network marketing journey just over a year ago, I had no idea what I was doing. I loved the company, had full belief in the products (still do) but I knew NOTHING about how to run a business or how to market. When I quickly blew throug my warm market I went to my enroller with “now what” and they really didn’t have any answers. I ran ads, bought leads, but was really struggling. I knew that I had to take matters into my own hands as failure has never really been an option for me.
I got on the internet and started researching and came across the book by Mark Yarnell called “Your First Year In Network Marketing”. I took a step back from my business and read that book from front to back and it changed my whole outlook on the industry. It helped me tremendously do exactly what you suggested, put a plan in place. I had everything going for me except HOW I was going to build my business and succeed.

My warm market consisted of my parents. When they shot me down, I vowed never to go down that road again.
Like you, I had a weak upline, and very quickly found myself on my own. I didn’t really begin to develop a plan until I read The Renegade Network Marketer. I knew I wanted to build my business primarily online, but up to that point I didn’t have a clue how to go about it.

I love this post, and I agree completely that we need a plan and coaching to help us make that happen. I was just on the phone today with a person who was struggling in network marketing because the team they were on gave them no guidance or resources to help them build their business. I can’t imagine a more difficult place to be. He was “making it up” as he went, but unfortunately, the learning curve is steep and the struggles were evaporating his belief.
Great job on the post. I love the comment about the products in your garage selling themselves.
