Passion: An Essential Element Of Success
What do they have that you don’t?
We’ve all asked ourselves this question at one time. How come some people seem to succeed at everything they do, while I continue to struggle, day after day, for meager results?
This post marks the first in a series about traits that all successful people possess.
The magic word of the day is passion. Nobody gets far without it. Whether you’re an athlete, a politician, or a businessman, having a passion for what you do is a prerequisite for success.
Even Donald Trump says that unless you love what you do, you’ll never be successful.
The good news is that in network marketing, there’s a whole lot to love. I’m not just talking about making a lot of money, although that’s a definite plus. Money itself, however, is a poor motivator, and unless there is a deeper meaning behind what we’re doing, this motivation will wear off.
This is one reason some network marketers teach you should be passionate about their products. This, however, has never worked for me. Yes, I have to believe the product I’m selling is of high quality, but getting passionate about it just feels too much like brainwashing to me.
I choose to be passionate about helping others. Either through personal development or by teaching them how to market their business, this is something I will stay up late and get up early to do.
Another passion is my ultimate goal, what some people call their “why.” My goal is to not have to think about money. Sounds kind of ironic, doesn’t it?
I remember when I was living in a small apartment and working overnight as a grocery stocker for a major retail chain. I barely had enough money to pay my bills, and money was something I thought about constantly, and they weren’t good thoughts.
As my business grows, I find myself thinking less and less about money, and more about teaching and giving. This is a mindset I’m truly passionate about developing.

I just wrote about passion in the college blog I write for! And I totally agree – passion is almost always what makes the difference. Passion is what makes the difference between a good cook and a great cook; a good marriage and a great marriage; a good blogger and a great blogger – and so on. If you are passionate about something you almost can’t help but be successful!

Hi Danielle,
If you’re like me, you don’t watch much TV. One show I do enjoy, though, is Kitchen Nightmares, with chef Gordon Ramsey. I’ve always been inspired by him, even though the most complex meal I’ve ever prepared was a grilled cheese. The reason he inspires me is his passion. It’s something you cannot fake.
When he goes into a new restaurant and sees that the problem is in the kitchen, he always asks the chef the same question: Where’s your passion? Nine times out of ten, lack of passion is the reason the business is failing.
Thanks for commenting, Danielle. See you around.

Hi Gregory,
Oh I agree. Passion is an absolute must. Not only is it a strong driving force, but it’s contagious, and impossible to fake for long.
Passionate people are inspiring, motivating and attractive to those who share the same interests and passions. We’re in the business of attracting so this is perfect.

Hi Susanna,
I love being around passionate people. Like you say, they’re contagious. For the most part, it doesn’t really matter what they’re passionate about; I can listen to them speak for hours. They make you want to be like them.
Great to see you here, Susanna! Thanks for commenting.

Hi Gregory,
passion is something very important. I definitely love what I do. The trouble with doing what we love is that we still have to do it. That’s what I learned from Robert Kiyosaki.
That’s why I love what I do: Helping others become successful.
But I work on removing myself from the equation anyway. That’s what I learned from Robert: People who do what they love eventually become tired because if they’re good at it, everybody wants them to do it.
What do you think ?
Thanks for sharing your insights.
By the way, love your why
Take care

Hi Oliver,
Your comment reminds me of when I was 11 years old, and I first learned to play the saxophone. I loved it. I got really good at it, and everybody wanted to hear me play – friends, family, teachers, you name it.
Then I learned to play guitar. It was way cooler than the sax; at least I thought so. But, what did everybody want to hear me play? The saxophone.
At this point, I can’t imagine growing tired of helping others become successful. But then again, I’m not yet at the point where “everybody wants me to do it.” I do see myself being much more selective at that point.
Thanks for you kind words, Oliver. Talk soon.

I agree that you’ve got to love what you’re doing if you’re going to succeed. If you don’t love it, you won’t stay with it for long.

Aloha Gregory,
I totally agree with you! Helping people is definitely my passion too! (it does help to have products which truly change people’s lives). I really didn’t know what my passion was, until I helped myself and my situation first. Then because I had more time, I was able to truly find my passion and mission in life.
It’s the most rewarding feeling in the world to truly help someone and to see them help others. And even better, when the legacy goes on and on without us. Beautiful!
Thank you for your wonderful and heartfelt post!
Aloha,

Hi Kellie,
I agree that helping others is the most rewarding feeling in the world. If you’re truly passionate about that, there’s almost nothing you cannot do. And, like you say, if you can teach others to help others, man, you’ve just started a chain reaction that will change the world as we know it!
Great to see you here, Kelly. Thanks for commenting! Talk soon.

Hey Gregory,
Wow, this is something I think we an all agree on. You have to have passion for what you do. In fact real passion can be more important than money.
I really do believe if you follow your passion the money will come. Not true for everyone but it’s worked for me
Thanks for the inspiration
Hi Liz,
You hit on some very key points, there. Passion, I believe, is much more important than money, because without it, any money you come across will leave you very quickly.
Also, following your passion will definitely bring you money, only this time it’s the lasting kind, because you keep attracting it over and over.

Hey Gregory!
I love the photo you chose for this post as well! Passion is such an awesome driving force that we can all tap into. I know for myself that when things are difficult and I’m not moving forward in my business, I’m not tapping into what it is that I feel the most passionate about. I believe our passions go way beyond profits in our businesses, and although we do want to get our needs met so to speak, if we’re focusing on what our passions are, we’ll do better, serve more people, and make more in the long run!
Great job!

Hi Heather,
Thanks for your kind words. I think lack of passion is why many network marketers fail. They’re so focused on recruiting and making money that they never really learn how to enjoy the process. For me, money is just a side benefit, albeit a very nice one. It’s not what drives me, though, and it’s not what drives most successful people.
Great to see you here, Heather. Thanks for commenting!

Passion is very important. I started blogging just to make some money but i don’t blog just to make money. I think passion is must for what you do to make it a business/blog successful.
Anyways, Thanks for sharing this great post.

Hi Devesh,
I believe if you do anything just for the money, it’s going to be a lot more work than it would if you did it because you loved it. That love for what you’re doing will naturally attract the money to you.
Great to see you here, my friend. Thanks for commenting.

Hi Gregory,
Yes love that post picture a lot!
Passion is an essential ingredient for us to be fulfilled by what we do.
I remember a college professor asking me whether I was passionate about teaching which I was doing at the time.
I said yes so he wanted to know how I knew this. I came up with a predictable list of reasons none of which were financially based, to which he replied,
“Fantastic so if you didn’t need to teach to pay your bills you would still do it?”
What a great question – If you didn’t have to do what you do to get paid would you still do it?
This is the reason why so many network marketers don’t last because they usually have to work at this for a long time before they get paid. Quite obviously then they weren’t passionate enough.

Hi Marcus,
Yes, that is a really good question, and considering all the old school techniques marketers in the past were taught, it’s no wonder the failure rate was so high. Unless you were extremely passionate about what you were doing, it would be easier to just get a job.
It reminds me, too, of when I was in a rock and roll band. Nobody did it for the money (OK, some did it for the women – might have been me). We loved the lifestyle, but we never made a whole lot of money. We did have a lot of fun, though.
Great to see you here, Marcus. Thanks for commenting!

Hey Greg, I totally agree. You can push passion on someone but it is easily to be passionate about helping others. Heck, it is down right addictive. I have many different passions and of course I didn’t make money for along time with them. However, I loved what I was doing so much I couldn’t stop.
It is a great joy to share with others.
